Dannon® Oikos® Greek yogurt is made using a traditional straining method that removes some of the whey (liquid) from the yogurt, leaving a creamier final product.
Though Oikos Greek yogurt is not produced in Greece, it is made according to the traditional Greek manner of production, which removes some of the whey through straining, leaving more of the milk solids.
Plain Oikos Greek yogurt has a rich, creamy taste with the tanginess of other plain yogurts. Our Oikos Greek yogurts, with flavors such as Strawberry, Blueberry, Black Cherry, or Peach, have a layer of fruit at the bottom of the cup and are topped with a layer of Plain Oikos Greek yogurt. Vanilla Oikos has a slightly sweet and mild vanilla flavor.
The difference in flavor results from some of the whey being strained out, leaving more of the milk solids. This gives Oikos Greek yogurt its thick texture. The thickness increases the intensity of the natural tart flavor. The taste also is influenced by the cultures used in the process.
Yes! Oikos Greek yogurt has a creamy-thick texture due to the straining process.
Oikos Greek yogurt-with 11 to 15 g of protein per 5.3 oz. serving and 17 to 22 g per 8 oz. serving-is an excellent source of protein, while regular, non-Greek yogurt contains about 5 g of protein per 5.3 oz. Our straining process leaves more of the milk solids, which results in a denser product with a higher protein level than that of regular, non-Greek yogurt*.*Oikos yogurt has 3 g saturated fat per 5.3 oz.

Greek yogurt has two times the protein vs. regular low-fat yogurt, and protein (along with regular exercise) is important for building, maintaining and repairing muscles. Plus, dairy protein contains all 9 essential amino acids the human body can’t produce on its own. Amino acids are the building blocks that we need to create our own proteins.
Our Oikos Greek Yogurts are a good source of protein, calcium and Vitamin D (except Plain Yogurts).
It takes three times as much milk to make the same amount of Greek yogurt as regular yogurt. We use a traditional straining method to make Oikos Greek Yogurt. This process removes some of the liquid whey from the product and results in a thicker and higher protein yogurt.
